I released an updated version for the Carousel Interaction. This update contains a few minor fixes as well as few enhancements. If you have published content with the first public release (1.3), please download/install the latest update and republish for these changes to take effect.
Fixed:
- The Resume Window Title bar was missing the Resume text.
- The mask used to reveal the thumbnail image was nudged up to fit better (top corners where cut off).
- When setting the inserted Multimedia Properties, setting to Zoom in a New Window now works as expected.
(Note to developers: This is a bug with the SDK. I will be adding a tutorial or instructions on my Blog that will show how to correct this.)
Enhancements:
- Setting a new Color Scheme for the Tabs –> Background color to Black will turn off the gradient fill on the ground plane.
- Setting a new Color Scheme for the FAQ –> FAQ Button Text will change the Information Panel border color.

Cool. What happens if I have the old version installed? Does it write over it, or do I have to uninstall and install the new one?
you are an angel!!! Thank you!
Tom,
When installing the newer version (1.4), it’s as simple as double-clicking the Carousel.artpkg file. You will be prompted to overwrite the old version. Selecting Yes will update to 1.4.
Great interaction. One small issue, I have 12 steps. Anyway in the code to add in 2 more steps so it doesn’t top out at 10?
John,
There is a way in the code to up the step limit, however, I started at this point as to keep server loads down as well performance up. I found 10 was a good starting point and would accommodate most system configurations. If there’s enough of a demand to up this limit, I would more than happy to do so.
Great job on this – effective way to communicate information.
Some of the text we want to use exceeds the window allowed for the summary — scrolling is OK, but is there any way to allow us to customize the size of that window and make it larger?
Thanks for all your hard work on this!
David – Thank you. The size of the text box cannot be changed. However, I am taking notes and if there’s enough of a demand for this, I will consider revising this in a future update.
I can’t seem to get the carousel interaction to install. I was successful with the others but this one just does not seem to have all the pieces. I have the zip file which contains the template.intr, the package.xml, and a few thumbnail graphics. When I double click on the template file, it opens Engage and loads the Process template but nothing about carousel. I must be missing a step or two. Please give me some guidance on the proper install process.
Thank you
Gary,
The Carousel.zip file I’ve provided here, contains a Carousel.artpkg file only. Because you are seeing the template.intr file, this would indicate, you have extracted the zip file and extracted the contents of the Carousel.artpkg file. Double-clicking the Carousel.artpkg file will automatically install the interaction after extracting this from the Carousel.zip file. More on this can be found here.
Awesome job you have done thanks!
I have 15 steps for the Carousel but I guess you have to set a limit somewhere! I vote for more steps also:)
Thanks Jenny! I’ve been getting quite a few requests to up the limit. My original thought was to keep this low enough to maximize performance. I will most likely up this limit, but would like to include more upgrades to this interaction before releasing. I’ll be starting a new category on this blog, titled’ Feature Requests’. This will help us all fine tune this interaction, to suite everyone’s needs. Thanks again for the kind words and for the suggestion.
I vote to change the length of the text box to prevent so much scrolling. I also have an issue where I only have 5 tabs filled in. When I publish the presentation it looks just fine, but when I post it to my LMS, the blank tabs have a ‘No Media’ box that appears. How can I fix that?
Chandra – Because the interaction works when previewing or viewing it locally, its possible these files were not uploaded in binary mode or the .xml files types cant be read. If you have published and uploaded to a server, please make sure the server has the ability to read .xml file types. The data.xml file in the published ‘engage_content’ folder is what loads the image data. If files are upload via a FTP client, make sure this is set to upload in Binary Mode. Articulate has an article related to this and can be found here.
Note: the article in the link above is for Articulate Presenter and is the same for Engage content.
Worked great! Thank you so much for your help and this great product!

Emily,
Thank you for the kind words. All of the Articulate Engage interactions have a set Summary window size and cannot be changed. Sorry.
What a wonderful interaction, and it is perfect for what I’m working on. Thanks so much. In the text box I’d like to include a link that sends the user to another page in the lesson. I was wondering if there is an easy way to do this? I see there is a URL function, but I’m not sure I know how to type a URL to direct to an existing page in the deck. Any advice? Thanks again, David!
Alison,
Thank you for the kind words. I’m pleased to hear you are enjoying this interaction. Dave Moxon put together a great tutorial on how to link from an Engage step to another slide in a Presenter presentation.

Hope this is what you are looking for?
Hi David
This is an awesome interaction. I’m wondering if there’s a way to remove the white rounded-corner box from around my images? I tried adjusting the properties and the image transparencies, but haven’t been able to remove that white box. Any help would be appreciated!
This is a great interaction! However, I’m having trouble inserting annotations so I can show students where the forward/back arrows are at the top – is this possible with this type of interaction?
